Phyllis Mills Olson passed away on June 10 in her home in Port Hadlock with her son Craig Vig, daughter Melanie Cherry and grandson Cameron Cherry at her side.

Phyllis was born April 15, 1944 in Bremerton, Washington. She grew up with her parents Arthur and Ethel Mills in Poulsbo. She attended Pearson Elementary, Poulsbo junior high and graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1962. She had great memories of those days with school friends and kept in touch with many through the years. Being in a Masonic family Phyllis also enjoyed International Rainbow for girls and Eastern Star where she was a 50-year member.

In 1964 Phyllis married Robert Vig and they started their family in Poulsbo. They moved with their children Craig and Melanie to Port Hadlock and opened Port Townsend Auto Center in 1973 where she was the bookkeeper.

Phyllis and George Olson were married in 1978. They joined their two families in Port Hadlock until their final days. Her focus from then on were her husband, children, and their dogs! They loved to camp and if they were not camping at Fort Flagler, they were taking a drive to Fort Flagler almost every day.

She loved to cook! And always was thoughtful of who she was cooking for. Mashed potatoes for Craig, riced potatoes for Sonny, no spaghetti sauce for Ken and later when the grandchildren came along NO GEEN GRANDMA! On our family summer vacations she enjoyed creating a menu for the week and  right after we ate a meal, we were asking her what the next meal would be, and that was when we (the children) were named the Hungry Five.

In her final years after her husband passed away, she spent her extra time with her children and grandchildren and relied greatly on her wonderful neighbors Nancy McConaghy and Darlene Olsen. They helped her tremendously by driving her to do her errands and even taking her for a ride to her beloved Fort Flagler.

Phyllis is survived by her children, and grandchildren Melanie Cherry of Port Hadlock with Austin and Cameron; Craig (Julie) Vig of Sequim with Brady, Erin and Laina; Mardy (Paul) Dye of Vancouver with Bjorn; Suzy Olson of Burien; and Ken Olson of Poulsbo with David and Olivia.

There will be a memorial at 1 p .m. Saturday, July 8 at the Masonic Lodge of Poulsbo, 1236 NW Finn Hill Road, Poulsbo, Wash.
