Kevin Yandell

1957 - 2024

Kevin Yandell, after years of declining health, passed quietly on March 13, 2024. He had been a resident of Jefferson County since 1972. Kevin was born in Spokane in 1957 and had previously lived in California and Okinawa before moving to Pt. Townsend. He leaves behind a multitude of friends and family.

He was a down-to-earth, talkative, and jovial (even goofy) presence to many and possessed a sharp intellect and an off-beat sense of humor. He was principled, kind and generous and delighted in sharing his highly creative culinary creations (cookies and ginger bread houses – often individually themed and reflecting that same humor) with family and many others throughout the community. His poetry was always quirky and humorous. For mysterious reasons, his favorite color was Bud Green.

In high school, he played varsity golf, taking future PGA pro Fred Couples down to the wire in one match. He also loved baseball, claiming for himself the moniker “Cleats of Fire”, perhaps over-estimating his foot speed. After attending the Univ. of Washington for a couple of years, he returned to Pt. Townsend and worked at a number of jobs over the next decades, primarily in the construction business.

Kevin liked to garden, to play golf and cribbage, and he loved music. He took delight in, and some level of responsibility for, many of his friends’ children and found people of all ages interesting. He was a great and supportive caregiver for his aging mother, Carol, for many years. Perhaps above all (mother aside), he took delight in his cats, proving himself once again as a caregiver as they aged.

Anyone who wishes to honor Kevin can make a contribution to the Humane Society of Jefferson County in his name.
