Joan Froland Lehner, 80, of Poulsbo, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023,  in Silverdale, Wash.

Born on June 23, 1942, to Carl and Marion Jean Froland, Joan graduated from Shoreline High School in Seattle, then attended St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Yakima, Wash. While there, she met a handsome Air Force cadet on a blind date. She married this future Air Force 0fficer, William Blaine Lehner (Bill), in the summer of 1964. Bill and Joan then moved West of the Cascades and lived in Bothell for nearly 40 years.

Joan was a nurse for seven years and returned to college as an adult in the late 1970s, receiving straight A’s. She earned a BA in Accounting and a Master's Degree in Finance .

She loved tackling remodeling projects refinishing kitchen cabinets and furniture to name a few. Joan worked alongside her husband in their engineering firm as the CFO, riding the highs and lows of owning a business and raising a family; and was a mentor to many of the staff.

Joan deeply connected with her sister, Judy, and considered her a best friend.  Always one for learning and self-inquiry, she was extremely honest; and could sometimes be blunt. She was non-judgmental, a firm believer in women’s rights, and stood up for those less fortunate.

Her memory lives on in her husband of 59 years, Bill; her three children, Michael Lehner of Kenmore, Wash., Erin Lehner of Bremerton, Wash., and Tonya Cole of Port Townsend; her five grandchildren, Zachary, Jayden, Terron, Ana and Jack; and her two siblings, Judy Hall and Charles Froland. Joan is preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be held at The Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary at 2 p.m. Friday, July 14, and a reception will immediately follow at 3 p.m. in the Cedar Glen Park dayroom. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Ukrainian Red Cross or feedthehungry.org. An online memorial can be seen at www.poulsbomortuary.com.
