On February 16, 2024, we lost the sweetest, most loving, caring, non-confrontational person to ever grace our presence. Irene M. Greening, 96, slipped away and went to heaven. Bradley-Kosec Funeral Home of Port Townsend is handling her arrangements. Per Irene’s request, there will not be a memorial service. Should you care to make a donation in her name, because of her love for animals, please donate to your local animal shelter.

Irene was born in Michigan, joining her 16 year older brother, where they lived on their self sustaining family farm. After graduating from High School, she married Roy Greening, who passed away 25 years ago. Their 3 children gave them a wonderful trip to Australia and New Zealand for their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

They started a family in Michigan and with 3 young children, packed up everything and moved to Southern California in 1954 to start a new life. Retiring years later, they hit the road and were full time RVers, eventually settling for the last 34 years at an RV park in Chimacum, Washington. Summers were fun filled with RV and fishing experiences and winters were spent on their RV lot in Arizona. Anderson Lake State Park was just around the corner and was a family favorite fishing spot.

After losing Roy, Irene continued traveling with her smaller RV, visiting family and friends on her way to Arizona in the winter and back to Washington for the rest of the year. She also made trips to Michigan visiting relatives and traveled over her home state. Irene always traveled with her West Highland White Terrier, Nugget, known and recognized everywhere by her RVer friends.

Those were her travels by land and since her daughter and family lived in Hawaii, air travels were obviously part of her plans. Irene visited Hawaii regularly, leaving it all behind and enjoying the sun, fresh fruit, flower gardens and returned only when she was ready.

Throughout Irene’s 96 years with us, Irene always stayed close to her upbringing and roots playing games, puzzling and fishing every chance she got and is the cornerstone of our family. She loved all family games, jigsaw puzzles and regularly played her favorite card game of pinochle at the Port Townsend Senior Center. She was thrilled when they opened a day for the rarely played double deck pinochle, which she loved.

Irene was as charming as a sunny day and always up for any adventure or excursion, like driving around back country roads just to see what was there and where they go. Out of the blue she would say “Let’s go sit on the water”, which meant let’s grab an ice cream at McDonald’s and drive down to Point Hudson in Port Townsend to watch the boats, people (especially with pets) and birds while enjoying the ice cream.

Irene is survived by her son Ronald Greening, 2 daughters, Charlene Hazen and Jewell Gosse, 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Friends and family can share memories of Irene and sign on the online guestbook at www.Bradley-Kosec.com
