Howard was born at Saint John’s Hospital in Port Townsend, Wa. He was the youngest of the six children of George & Sally Huntingford, of Chimacum Valley.
Howie loved growing up on the family dairy farm. He would hang around the barnyard with his dad, learning all he could about the cows, their care and learned how to milk by hand before using machines.
As a young boy, Howard got his first calf, joined 4-H and loved showing her at local fairs, as well as the Western State Fair in Puyallup, Washington.
Howie attended Chimacum school through 12th grade. He enjoyed playing sports, football, basketball, and baseball.
In his journaling he wrote about his joy in helping with haying and silage making on the farm. He also reminisces about the fun he had at the family’s Beckett Point cabin He especially enjoyed the sandy summer beach and climbing the trail up the steep hillside.
Howie loved taking road trips and visiting with people in the many states he traveled. He enjoyed the authentic learning that took place during his travels. Howie was especially drawn to children. He had a child like soul and his young nieces and nephews loved him and were drawn to his kindness. The Empowered Church in Poulsbo was Howie’s church family for the last years of his life. They welcomed him with loving open arms and accepted him for the kind caring man he was. For that we are truly thankful.
Howard was preceded death by his parents, George & Sally, his brother George Walter, and Daniel Doub and nephew Johnathan Leonard.
Surviving siblings are Harriet Lynch of Ritzville, Judy Baum of Woodinville, and Francis Gunn of Port Townsend and sisters in law Sharon Huntingford and Louise Huntingford. He is survived by 13 nieces & nephews, and 22 great-nieces & nephews.
A memorial service honoring Howie is being planned for a future date when warmer weather abounds. Memorials may be made to the Chimacum Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 554 Chimacum, Wa 98368.
