Wilma Calkins, a resident of Nordland, Washington, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2021. She was born in Reedsport, Oregon on Oct. 26, 1924.
Shortly after her father returned from serving in World War I, the family moved to Newport, Oregon. Wilma married George Calkins, son of well known county commissioner Elmer Calkins. Her husband turned out to be a designer and builder of fine boats. Together they developed the ‘Calkins Craft Boat Co’.
Friends called them a team. Their last project was to build a 63-foot sailing schooner on which they lived for 14 years. They cruised from Alaska to Canada, the West Coast to Mexico, the Hawaiian Islands to the Queen Charlotte Islands, then home. Their marriage lasted 67 years.
She is survived by her sister Lavon Harson of Spokane, Washington. She leaves behind many friends and loved ones who were blessed by her along the way.
