The man killed in an early morning confrontation at Sandy Shore Lake Wednesday was a Jefferson County resident.
The shooter was a man from Kitsap County, Jefferson County Sheriff Joe Nole said Wednesday.
Deputies were called to Sandy Shore Lake at 3:42 a.m. Wednesday. The shooter called 911 and told dispatchers he had shot a man, Nole said.
Nole said the shooter remained at the scene to wait for the arrival of law enforcement.
The victim in the shooting was dead when deputies arrived.
The apparent shooter was detailed, questioned, then released.
The case remains under investigation, Nole said, but at this point, it appears the man shot in self-defense.
The sheriff's office had reported earlier that both men had been armed.
Neither the shooter nor the victim have been identified by authorities.
Nole said additional details could not yet be released because of the ongoing investigation.
