Eric Pickens announced his candidacy for the position of 24th District State Representative.

"I am running for State Representative because, as a teacher and a working parent, I have witnessed firsthand the impact of policy failures on families in our community,” said Pickens.

“Our schools, families, and workers are facing challenges that demand thoughtful, effective solutions. I believe that my experiences as a teacher uniquely position me to understand and address these issues. We need more legislators in Olympia who will prioritize families, workers' rights, and competence in state government. I am committed to ensuring the voices of our community are heard and represented in the legislature."

Pickens said he was raised in a single-parent household marked by financial hardships and an abusive stepfather. Pickens says he learned the power of resilience from a young age. His mother's tireless efforts as a proud union member, culminating in a landmark discrimination lawsuit against the Washington State Ferries, inspired Pickens to believe that a determined individual can make a difference.

Current 24th State Representative Mike Chapman endorsed Pickens.

"I believe Eric Pickens is a great candidate for the open House seat in the 24th LD," he said "Not only has Eric been a good friend. He has also been someone I've come to respect and appreciate his passion for issues surrounding public education, social justice and worker's rights."
