Rumpelstiltskin spins theatre gold out of local students

A strange little gnome is coming to town.

Join the Missoula Children’s Theatre and more than 50 local elementary students at the Port Townsend High School Auditorium as they bring to life “Rumpelstiltskin.”

A spirited tale with two performances will take place 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11.

This original musical adaptation, featuring local musician Lisa Lanza on the piano, is sure to please audiences of all ages.

The performance is part of the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s unique international touring project and is presented locally by the Optional Education Program Enrollment (OPEPO), a first- through fifth-grade alternative, multi-age program within the Port Townsend School District, where students work cooperatively with two teachers/facilitators.

Tickets are $15/adult and $5/student at the door with free admission to Salish staff and students for the Friday evening performance.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre and has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan.

Their tour team will arrive with a set, lights, costumes, props, and make-up; everything it takes to put on a play, except the cast.

The team will hold an open audition on the Monday before the performance and will cast 50 to 60 local students to perform in the production.

The show will then be rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are then presented at the end of the week.
