These waters weren’t so welcoming.
The East Jefferson girls varsity swimming team visited the Bainbridge Island Aquatic Center late last week for a meet with the perennial 3A powerhouse Spartans.
Bainbridge’s depth dominated throughout the meet, with the Spartans swimming to first place in all races.
For the Rivals, though, it was really races against the clock.
Akeyla Behrenfeld of East Jefferson posted a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, with a time of 2:24.20.
Serena Hanby-Perless was fifth for the Rivals in 2:27.25.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Melody Douglas claimed fourth place in 2:54.82.
Juliette O’Hara was fourth for the Rivals in the 50-yard freestyle in 30.94, followed by teammate Addy Asbell in fifth (34.96) and Maggie Emery in sixth (39.05).
East Jefferson also had a fourth-place finisher in the 100-yard butterfly.
Lizzy Krajewski touched the wall at 1:37.31.
In the girls 100-yard freestyle, Behrenfeld was fourth with a time of 1:04.31.
Tallulah Sebastian took fifth in 1:13.12, and Emma McAdam was sixth in 1:57.90.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Magdaline Ferland won third place in 7:08.11. Asbell was fourth in 9:14.28.
The Rivals relay team of Hanby-Perless, McAdam, Lizzy Krajewski, and Ferland was third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:29.15.
The EJ relay team of Behrenfeld, Gillian McCracken, Emery, and Asbell placed fourth in the race in 2:47.03.
O’Hara was also fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1:26.15.
Tallulah Sebastian took fifth (1:23.12) for EJ, and Emery was sixth (1:46.21).
In the 100-yard backstroke, Douglas claimed fourth place (1:25.06) and Hanby-Perless was fifth (1:27.46).
EJ finished with fourth place in the last race of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Behrenfeld, Emery, O’Hara, and Hanby-Perless swam to a time of 4:57.15.
