Sophomore Mi Amada Lanphear Ramirez of the East Jefferson Rivals girls wrestling team was selected as the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Athlete of the Week for Jan. 16 through Jan. 22.
Lanphear Ramirez was one of 12 students across the state chosen for the honors. The award celebrates student-athletes for their outstanding performances and impactful contributions to their communities.
In her first-ever year of wrestling, the sophomore has found a plethora of success on the mat. She finished her most recent wrestling tournament at the top of her weight class, winning three out of three matchups Saturday, Jan. 8. After losing one of her matches in the first wrestling meet of the season, Lanphear Ramirez has gone undefeated since.
She received a letter of recognition from Mick Hoffman, WIAA’s executive director, a certificate of achievement, and a $25 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods for her determination, community leadership, and athletic performance.
