East Jefferson Rivals Athletics Director Shelby Box has been awarded the InSideOut Leadership Award on behalf of the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL Foundation and the InSideOut Initiative.

Box, who has nearly 20 years of experience as a coach, athletic trainer and mental performance coach, is the director of the combined athletic departments of the Port Townsend and Chimacum achool sistricts.

The InSideOut Award is presented by the InSideOut Initiative, a national movement that trains athletic directors and coaches to become transformational leaders, creating a community of belonging for student-athletes’ social-emotional and character development. Box completed the InSideOut professional learning series this spring.

“InSideOut has equipped me with the tools I need to transform our athletic department into a purpose based athletic department,” said Box, in a statement provided by the Port Townsend School District. ”It has helped me introduce common language to my coaches and it has helped me be able to put into words and action the vision I have for our program.”

Her mission statement is: “I lead to help coaches produce better humans, by modeling kindness and reliability.”

“We are very excited to celebrate Shelby’s leadership, and the intentional steps she has taken to provide purpose-based sports experiences to the students in her school community,” Jody Redman, a former statewide athletics association leader, athletic administrator and co-founder of the InSideOut Initiative, said in the statement.

Box will be presented with the InSideOut Leadership Award at the Port Townsend School Board meeting on June 20.
