Quimper Grange's traditional-music house-concert series continues March 8 with music from Quebec. The band Le Bruit Court dans la Ville (The Buzz Around Town) performs at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 8. Admission to the evening concert is $15-$25 (sliding scale).
The band is composed of Lisa Ornstein (fiddle), Andre Marchand (guitar/vocals) and Normand Miron (accordion/vocals). Ornstein and Marchand met as bandmates in La Bottine Souriante, a group that helped start Quebec’s folk music revival. Miron, a singer and accordionist, grew up surrounded by family musicians in Lanaudière, the epicenter of Quebec’s folk scene. As a trio, Le Bruit Court dans la Ville’s music is deeply rooted, innovative, nuanced and spontaneous.
The members of Le Bruit have been on staff at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend numerous times and are skilled teachers as well as performers. They plan to host a band-lab-style Quebecois music workshop from 3:30 to 5 p.m., March 8, at the Grange, before their evening concert. The workshop is open to all acoustic instruments (fiddle, guitar, accordion, concertina, flute, mandolin, banjo, clarinet, etc.). They are to teach two or three tunes and leave some time for jamming and conversation. Admission to the workshop is $15.
Quimper Grange is located at 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend.
