Protesting for peace in Gaza

Scott Seymour, James Feit, Linda Gallaher, and Dena Bugel-Shunra hold signs of protest about the war in Gaza at Tyler Street Plaza on Friday, June 28.

The Jefferson County Palestine Solidarity group has held Friday midday vigils since November, and also meets at the Chimacum Corner Junction.

“We lobbied local elected officials to adopt resolutions promoting an immediate ceasefire, mutual exchange of hostages, and urgently needed humanitarian aid,” which were adopted by the Jefferson County Commissioners and Board of Health, and the Port Townsend City Council, said group member Bugel-Shunra.

“People here care so much about what’s happening in Palestine and Israel, locals as well as tourists,” she said, adding that many in the group have been personally affected by the war.

“Many of us have friends, relatives, or a personal history of living there.”

They get a lot of supportive waves, thumbs-up and peace signs every week, and some “usually polite” disagreement, she said.
