The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 100 calls between Friday, Nov. 25, and Thursday, Dec. 1. Below are selected reports.

At 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, in the 800 block of Sheridan Street, hospital staff identified an outpatient who had been brought there earlier and cleared from the facility and was refusing to leave.

An officer contacted the man and escorted him off the property. While leaving, the man was verbally abusive toward hospital staff and the officer.

At 6:55 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, a traffic collision was reported at the West Sims Way and Haines Place intersection after a truck driver hauling a houseboat miscalculated the height of the load and pulled down a communications line and traffic light pole while turning out of the marina.

Officers closed the intersection, directed traffic, and contacted the communications company and Washington State Department of Transportation.

After tearing down the communications line and traffic light pole, two of the traffic lights broke off the pole and landed in the intersection. The lights and line were repaired throughout the day and the intersection was reopened at a later time.

At 12:17 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, in the 1400 block of Sims Way, a caller reported two transient men who were fighting nearby.

Officers located both of the men, who told two conflicting stories over what happened. The fight had wrapped up before law enforcement arrived. Both of the men considered the spat to be settled and didn’t want to pursue assault charges.

At 12:59 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, a caller in the 2200 block of Sims Way reported a transient man — the same person who had been escorted out of the hospital after refusing to leave — who was seen pushing a shopping cart in the roadway. Officers spoke with him, but he refused any services.

At 1:53 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, a stray dog was reported in the 2500 block of Sims Way, and officers located the canine.

It was a black-and-white dog, possibly a pit bull, and the canine’s owner had someone pick it up.

At 1:46 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, an assault occurred in the 800 block of Hancock Street after a tenant attacked another tenant.

Officers spoke with both people and they had conflicting stories about the real assailant. No arrests were made, but an assault report was taken.

At 4:12 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, in the 2500 block of Evans Vista, an officer on patrol contacted a man who was picking up trash.

The man was the same person who’d been trespassed from the hospital earlier in the week; he apologized for his prior actions and said he was sober now.
