The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 185 calls between Friday, March 3, and Thursday, March 9. Below are selected reports.
At 7 a.m. Friday, March 3, an attempted break-in was reported in the 2300 block of West Sims Way after someone smashed the glass door of a nearby business overnight. The suspect was unable to gain entry into the store, and a large hole was left in the door with glass on the floor. The estimated cost to repair the glass door is $1,000 and there are no suspects at this time.
At 9 a.m. Friday, March 3, in the 300 block of Tyler Street, an injured deer was reported to law enforcement. The deer had been impaled on a fence. Due to its severely injured state, an officer dispatched the deer.
At 11:50 p.m. Friday, March 3, two people in the 800 block of Gaines Street were reported for disorderly conduct after yelling at each other outside.
One of them said, “stop” and “get away” during the argument. Officers contacted both people, determining it was a heated civil issue between the two over ownership of a dog.
Both claimed the canine was theirs. Nothing physical had happened, and neither person wanted to press any charges. Both were encouraged to go to court and prove their ownership of the dog.
At 2:10 p.m. Saturday, March 4, a case of malicious mischief was reported in the 600 block of Water Street after one woman keyed another woman’s car.
The reporting party told police she was unsure about a description of the suspect, apart from her being a woman. She said a nearby hotel likely had camera footage of the car being keyed. Officers requested video footage from the hotel, but the manager said they were unable to retrieve the video.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in the 100 block of Taylor Street, an assault was reported at a nearby apartment.
The reporting party told law enforcement he’d been pushed to the ground by another man, who then followed him back to his apartment before forcing his way inside. The suspect banged on the door loudly and pushed his way into the man’s home, shoving him against the wall. The victim, an elderly man, received a bloody elbow from the incident.
The aggressive man was arrested and transported to jail on fourth-degree assault and second-degree burglary charges for forcing his way into the apartment. The booking offense was upgraded to a first-degree burglary charge due to the victim’s age. The victim was in his 70s, the aggressor in his 50s.
