A one-vehicle rollover on Marrowstone Island in the early morning of Wednesday, Dec. 13, resulted in two Port Townsend men in their early 20s being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

As of Friday, Dec. 15, 21-year-old Caullin F. Mclarney of Port Townsend was still listed in serious condition in Harborview’s Intensive Care Unit, while 23-year-old George M. Parrish, also of Port Townsend, was not in the ICU, and was listed in satisfactory condition, according to Susan Gregg, media relations director for University of Washington Medicine.

“We don’t use ‘stable’ as a condition,” Gregg said. “If you are not in ICU, like Parrish, you are satisfactory.”

The rollover occurred near the intersection of East Marrowstone and Meade roads in Nordland, according to Jefferson County Det. Sgt. Brett Anglin, who added that a resident of East Marrowstone Road reported hearing a vehicle pass her house at high speed, followed by sounds consistent with a collision, at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Dec. 13.

Anglin said that when Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, both men were outside of the vehicle and injured, so it was suspected that the pair had been ejected from the vehicle.

Anglin confirmed that Mclarney was the driver of the vehicle and Parrish was his passenger.

The Washington State Patrol assisted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the rollover scene and the roadway, which was temporarily closed.

According to a statement Anglin issued to The Leader on Thursday, Dec. 14, “Preliminary review of the scene indicated that excessive speed and alcohol were likely factors to this collision.”
