The city of Port Townsend will host their third public open house to gather community feedback on the Healthier Together Aquatics Center feasibility study. It will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 13 at the Fort Worden Commons.
The feasibility study began in February.
“The goal of this project is to reengage previous partners and the community to establish a health and wellness center with a modern aquatics component,” said Carrie Hite, the city’s director of parks and recreation strategy.
There have been many attempts over the past decades to plan for and rebuild the pool and/or a community health and wellness facility for Jefferson County. Efforts have stalled since the pandemic.
The community planning effort will include concepts and research for siting, costing, and managing expectations, an implementation plan (including financing), and polling for any community financing initiatives that may be needed.
The plan will be multi-phased, culminating in a final report that will be transmitted to the community. It will identify the roles and responsibilities of each public entity involved.
An online version of the meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 12. The link, as well as more information on childcare and how to register, is available at cityofpt.us.
