Port Townsend Pickleball Club celebrates three brand-new courts

Posted

Representatives from the Port Townsend Pickleball Club and city of Port Townsend came together to celebrate the grand opening of three new pickleball courts at the Mountain View Commons.

The pickleball club raised more than $40,000 to create the three new courts and open them to the public for play, with the celebration marking the culmination of the private-public partnership to bring more recreation options to the area.

“Four years ago, anyone walking into Port Townsend’s Mountain View Commons might glance west and see an out-of-use concrete slab,” said Lynn Pierle, president of the pickleball club. “This month, that site officially became a permanent pickleball hub for east Jefferson County.”

The Port Townsend Pickleball Club, Jefferson County YMCA, and city coordinated to get the project to the finish line, despite the pandemic and supply chain-related slowdowns.

“I hope folks will come out to see the new courts, take free lessons offered by the club, and realize what a huge benefit this is for the community,” Pierle said.
