Palm Sunday Jesus Parade set for March 20 in PT

The 25th annual Palm Sunday Jesus Parade in Port Townsend takes place on Sunday, March 20.

“We encourage anything that will honor Jesus and his walk into Jerusalem some 2,000 years ago. We also look to his soon return to the earth to rule as reigning King over the earth,” said event organizers.

Last year's parade included participants from Port Townsend, Quilcene, Sequim, Port Angeles and Poulsbo; past entries have included a person dressed up like Jesus with a donkey, music groups, antique cars, horses, banners and motorcycles.

Jesus' walk into Jerusalem marked what has come to be known as the beginning of Holy Week, which culminates with Easter one week later, March 27.

Each year, music is played while participants carry palms, balloons and banners. Music is provided by Jonathan Simonson, pastor of Sequim Valley Foursquare Church.

Those interested in attending are invited to meet at the U.S. Bank parking lot next to the ferry dock at 2:30 p.m. The short parade is set to begin promptly at 3 p.m., escorted by Port Townsend police officers. After the parade, refreshments are offered at Adams Street Park.
