Those tough nuts have done it again.
The Oakville Acorns beat the Quilcene Rangers in girls varsity basketball during an on-the-road matchup Dec. 16 in Oakville.
The Acorns prevailed 31-23.
The game was a rematch of the Dec. 10 contest in Quilcene, where the Rangers battled the Acorns even across four periods only to fall in overtime.
“The Oakville game on Friday saw us play our best basketball of the season in the first half, but our continued shooting struggles became the difference between either closing out the win or coming up short,” Quilcene Coach Mark Thompson said of the first battle against Oakville.
“We continue to get stronger with the ball, and our defense has been pretty good at times,” Thompson said.
“Rebounding continues to be another area we need to improve,” he added.
The loss late last week pushed the Rangers’ season record to 1-5.
Quilcene will get some time to regroup over the holiday break, and won’t see action again until a Jan. 4 matchup against Clallam Bay High at home in Quilcene.
