A brush fire spread quickly in the 1500 block of Sandy Lake Road this week, due to the extremely hot conditions and winds, according to Quilcene Chief Tim McKern.
Although he was the first firefighter on the scene, he told The Leader that law enforcement was already working extinguishers and local citizens were shoveling dirt on the blaze which helped limit its damage to about a tenth of an acre.
“It moved pretty quickly so that rain we’ve had is a just a tease. Maybe it watered the flowers a little but we are still in extreme fire danger,” McKern said.
The call came in Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
