The Port Townsend High School Players open Masks Off Friday, Nov. 3, 7 p.m. at the PTHS High School Auditorium.
This is a special show developed through a process known as "devising" among the actors and a director. In this case it's a group of students from Port Townsend High School and director Chris Pierson. These are short episodic scenes where characters try to share who they really are versus what they show at a Halloween party.
The beginning of the process leading to Masks Off was ensemble-building and improvisation. Students each brought in a personal narrative, a song, an object and a literary text. According to Pierson, “We worked improv scenes off of those stories, using music as transitions, and wove together a party narrative to support the scenes and flashbacks the characters share when the mask comes off."
Masks Off will be performed at the PTHS Auditorium Nov. 3, 4, 10, 11 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 5 and 12 at 2 p.m. Admission is by donation.
