A 29-year-old man was killed Friday night when his Jeep crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic on US 101 north of Brinnon and collided with another Jeep.

The driver was identified as Edward A. Avery of Independence, Missouri.

The driver of the other Jeep, a 48-year-old Vancouver, Wash. woman, was injured in the crash. Her passenger in the Jeep, a 41-year-old woman from Copalis Beach, was also hurt.

Both of the occupants of the Jeep that was struck were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Washington State Patrol said Avery was speeding at the time of the wreck, and Avery's driving was the cause of the crash.

The collision happened at 6:43 p.m. Friday, just north of Brinnon Shop Road.

The State Patrol said Avery was headed south at a high rate of speed in a 1998 Jeep when the vehicle entered a curve and crossed into the other lane.

The other driver, in a 2021 Jeep, was headed north on US 101 when it was hit by Avery's vehicle.

Both Jeeps went into the ditch on opposite sides of the highway.

US 101 was blocked for nearly four hours after the wreck, and the highway was reopened just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Both vehicles were totaled and were impounded by the State Patrol.
