The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 310 calls for service between Saturday, Aug. 20 and Friday, Aug. 26. Below are selected reports.

At 5:43 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 in Port Hadlock, a resident reported being a victim of a fraud. The caller had been scammed by someone on the phone, and was already in contact with the fraud department at First Federal Bank.

The fraudster had claimed to be working for Morality Inc., a debt consolidation service provider, and needed $2,200 to get the process started.

The victim shared bank account information, and later received a fraudulent check.

At 8:28 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 in Port Hadlock, a prowler was reported at the park in Irondale.

A woman said she came back to her vehicle and found a woman inside; there were obvious signs that the prowler had been rummaging through the vehicle. After being confronted, she left the area by taking a trail through the park.

The prowler was with a man, getting into a black truck that had a camper on it.

A deputy stopped the truck as it approached Irondale Road as the man driving the truck was not wearing a seat belt.

The deputy discovered both the driver and the woman had warrants for their arrest.

They were both taken into custody.

The woman admitted to being in the vehicle at the park. She was arrested for second-degree vehicle prowling.

At 3 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22 in Brinnon, a resident reported hearing a chainsaw south of his address.

He thought someone in a “tweaker van” was stealing wood.

A deputy checked the area and could not find the van or any tweakers.

At 1:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22 in Quilcene, a caller reported an incident of animal abuse on Linger Longer Road. A dog was seen inside a white Ford truck and the windows were barely cracked.

The dog was panting and yelping. It was described as a Chihuahua-type dog and was wearing a sweater.

An animal control officer responded but the vehicle was gone.

At 2:04 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22 in Brinnon, a resident reported a woman who was repeatedly trespassing by cutting across the caller’s property on Green Mountain Road.

A deputy responded and contacted the interloper. She was told that she was trespassing, and if she continued, she would be arrested.

The woman said she understood.
