Early Music Concert

Posted by BarbaraTusting

We are pleased to present the next installment of our Early Music Series at the Quimper Grange. "Return to Potsdam" will be presented by Schola Galante, played on instruments appropriate to the period. Come and hear this uplifting music on Saturday, May 25th at 2:00 p.m. This event is co-sponsored by Radio KPTZ.

The ensemble Schola Galante will focus on music from the court of Frederick the Great, ruler of Prussia from 1740 to 1786. The so-called “Berlin School” of which he was a generous patron, attracted over 25 of the finest European composers and performers whose creations – chamber and orchestral music, as well as operas -- epitomized the latest evolution of musical styles. Most of his brilliant musicians have since faded into obscurity, but their influence on subsequent generations of composers (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven) was profound. Frederick was also a talented amateur flutist, thus most of the music written under his sponsorship brilliantly demonstrates the capabilities of the Baroque flute.

Ensemble Schola Galante members are (L to R) Dahti Blanchard, Lee Inman, Miguel Rodé and Douglass Hjelm.

Quimper Grange is located at 1219 Corona Ave, Port Townsend. Doors open at 1:30pm, tickets are $20.
