In response to Lynne Stryker’s letter concerning COVID carelessness,
I would like to correct her statement that there were 712 new cases of COVID in Port Townsend in the past two weeks. There were actually
143 new cases, not 712.
That number refers to the “case rate” per 100,00 people, an average rate if all counties had the same 100,000 population. While 143 cases is still higher than optimal, it is nowhere near the
712 quoted by Ms Stryker.
As a final note, I am surprised that The Leader did not bother to fact check this statement before publishing the letter.
