Busy Fourth of July for sheriff deputies

Posted

Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to nearly four dozen fireworks complaints from 4 p.m. to midnight on Independence Day.

Detective Sgt. Brett Anglin said the department’s four deputies who were on patrol responded to at least 46 complaints about fireworks.

“There were likely many more calls that were not documented due to the large volume of calls at the time,” Anglin explained.

Fireworks were banned late last week due to dry conditions across the county.

Fireworks complaints were just a part of emergency calls that kept deputies busy on the holiday.

“In addition to those calls for service, those same four deputies responded to 16 additional calls for service which included two death investigations, a burglary investigation, a theft complaint, an unwanted person, two suspicious person complaints, and a warrant arrest,” he added.
