You can always get more geraniums | Letter to the editor

I read with some alarm the suggestion that archers should patrol our streets to cull the herds of deer which would make it safe for geraniums while also supplying venison.

To be sure, the author called for “expert archers.” One wonders where these experts might be located. Archers have always been difficult to train and maintain as any general study of military technology will demonstrate.

But even if there were a ready supply of yeomen archers eager to take up the challenge. Is that what we want? Archers stalking the streets bringing down deer in school zones and neighborhood streets. The occasional wounded deer fleeing in bloody terror. The victims of killing shots bleeding on our lawns and parking spots? Carcasses hanging from branches to bleed? I don’t think so.

I wonder if the author is having us on. In that case, I suggest we plant more geraniums.
