The crash that shut down the Hood Canal Bridge for nearly two hours Tuesday morning was caused by a speeding semi-trailer-truck driver, the Washington State Patrol said.
One person was injured in the collision on the Highway 104 span between Jefferson and Kitsap counties.
The crash happened just after 9:30 a.m. Nov. 17 after a 47-year-old Spanaway man in a 2011 Freightliner semi-trailer truck was speeding while heading east across the bridge.
The truck driver lost control and the semi hit the concrete barrier on the east side of the bridge, according to the State Patrol.
The truck then veered into traffic that was headed west and hit a 2017 Kia Sorento driven by a 50-year-old Buckley woman.
The Kia was totaled.
Both vehicles were blocking the two lanes of travel on the span when they came to rest, according to the State Patrol.
The driver of the Kia was taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Bremerton as a precautionary measure. The State Patrol said her injuries were not life-threatening.
The truck driver was not hurt.
The State Patrol said the man will be charged with driving "too fast for conditions."
