The Washington State Patrol is investigating the death of a man who was discovered in a tent Sunday along the Maple Valley Trail near Dosewallips State Park.
Jefferson County Sheriff Joe Nole said deputies were called to the scene to assist just after 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7 after a person who was walking along the trail discovered the body.
The man appeared to have been dead for some time, Nole said.
The man’s body was found about 400 yards from the Maple Valley Trailhead.
A search-and-rescue team was called in to bring the body out of the woods.
Nole said efforts to identify the body were underway, and the county coroner and a funeral home had been contacted.
The Washington State Patrol is leading the investigation because the body was found inside the boundaries of Dosewallips State Park, located along US Highway 101 just south of Brinnon.
