The Washington State Patrol has identified the man shot and killed by police in Brinnon last week as Timothy C. Connor, 49.
The State Patrol also said a handgun was found near Connor's body by investigators.
In an update Friday, the Washington State Patrol said the investigation into the officer-involved shooting was "still in the preliminary stages."
The shooting happened in the early afternoon of Friday, Sept. 23 near U.S. Highway 101 and Dosewallips Road.
In its update Friday, the State Patrol said deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported shots fired at 2:44 p.m. Sept. 23.
Deputies rendered emergency aid until medics arrived, and Connor was airlifted by a medical helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives from the Washington State Patrol, Mason County, and Grays Harbor County sheriff’s offices went to the Brinnon Community Center to begin the investigation immediately after the shooting, and authorities said Friday a handgun that did not belong to Jefferson County deputies was found near Connor.
The State Patrol said authorities have interviewed civilian witnesses and the officers who saw the shooting. Dispatch notes have also been examined, along with physical evidence from the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
