Quilcene EMS levy on the way to easy approval

Libby Urner Wennstrom and Tyler Myles Vega will advance to November’s General Election for the Position 5 seat on the Port Townsend City Council.

Wennstrom was leading in a landslide in the first tally of votes in the 2021 Primary Election Tuesday.

Wenstrom had 75.99 percent of the vote, while Vega had 19.7 percent.

Sky Hardesty-Thompson, the remaining candidate in the three-way race, had 4.2 percent.

Voters in Quilcene were also overwhelmingly approving Proposition 1, a property tax measure for EMS (emergency medical services) funding.

The levy had 80.88 percent in favor on Election Night, while 19.1 percent were opposed.

For the Port Ludlow fire department, Ron Helmonds and Glenn T. Clemens will advance to the fall election.

Helmonds, the incumbent, picked up 36.7 percent of ballots verified and counted in the initial tally Aug. 3 for Commissioner Position 3 in Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 3, while Clemens was close behind with 35.8 percent. 

Candidate Mike Feely had 27.49 percent of the vote in the race.
