Prolific composer and musician Wayne Horvitz and Sweeter Than the Day perform live at Key City Playhouse at 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7, as part of the Cabaret Concert Series produced by Key City Public Theatre and George Rezendes/Toolshed Sound Lab.
Horvitz describes his music as “beautifully crafted tunes that act like jazz but feel like songs.” To understand what he means, one truly must be there to experience it firsthand.
Horvitz composes the songs for the piano-based quartet. Formed in 1999, the band was based on Horvitz’s previous electric ensemble, Zony Mash, though with an acoustic touch to counter the electrically charged sound of the original.
He has performed throughout Europe, Japan and North America and done extensive film and television work, including projects with director Gus Van Sant (“Good Will Hunting”), and a full-length score for the PBS special “Chihuly Over Venice.”
Sweeter Than the Day band members include Horvitz on piano, Alex Guy on viola and violin, Geoff Harper on bass, and Andy Roth on drums.
Tickets, $20, are available by calling 385-5278 or online at keycitypublictheatre.org.
