Two East Jefferson Rivals boys tennis stars, Reid Martin and Stuart Dow, have qualified as a doubles team for the high school state tennis championships in Yakima this year.
Dow’s State bid is the first-ever in Port Townsend High School history, while Martin is the first Chimacum High tennis player to qualify in more than 51 years, Rivals Head Coach Keith Johnson said.
The last Chimacum players to head to State were Ted and Chuck Porter in 1972.
Martin and Dow finished third in the district tournament back in November, with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announcing their qualification in March.
The state doubles tournament is set for May 26 and May 27 in Yakima.
“It’s exciting. I’m really excited for them,” Johnson said.
