High winds and rough seas have shut down sailings on the Port Townsend-Coupeville ferry route, Washington State Ferries announced just before 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

WSF canceled the 11 a.m. and the 12:30 p.m. sailings from Port Townsend and the 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. sailings from Coupeville.

Travelers with reservations will not incur a no-show fee for the remainder of Thursday, according to WSF.

Strong winds are forecast for Western Washington through Thursday.

Gusts of up to 50 mph are expected throughout the region, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle. Gusts from 45 to 50 mph are forecast for Neah Bay, with gusts of 40 to 45 mph in the Forks area.

In Port Townsend, gusts of 35 to 40 mph are expected.
