Although Fort Worden State Park is currently closed, the Washington State Parks Foundation has made it possible for travelers-at-heart to visit the 434-acre historic former military base from the comfort of their own homes.

By visiting waparks.org/tour_parent/tour-home-fort-worden-historical-state-park, you can take virtual, interactive tours of Fort Worden’s point of interest, with its grounds divided into four color-coded zones on the online map: the Fort Worden Conference Center to the south in red, Artillery Hill to the north in yellow, Point Wilson to the east in green, and the Chinese Gardens and North Beach in blue to the west.

By clicking each section, visitors can either tour the grounds or select specific buildings, with maps of each zone and interactive photographs of each point of interest that can be navigated via cursor.

The Conference Center includes two museums, the officers’ and NCOs’ rows of housing, two batteries, the chapel, theater, pavilion, conference building and commons.

Artillery Hill includes eight batteries, three auxiliary powerhouses, two command posts, a searchlight, a storehouse, a radar station and radio school site, and a fire control station.

Point Wilson includes three batteries, a searchlight, the lighthouse, the lower campground, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center and its separate classroom.

The Chinese Gardens and North Beach include two trails, the beach, a battery, a searchlight and the military cemetery.

The Friends of Fort Worden expressed their appreciation to the Washington State Parks for creating the site, and have asked the public to be patient with some of the photo links if they take a little while to load.

The Friends also noted these virtual tours will remain available even after the park reopens.
