The number of COVID-19 cases in Jefferson County rose again Wednesday after the public health department announced three more residents had tested positive for the disease.
The new infections all involve mid-county residents; a man in his 30s, and two males under the age of 20.
The three new cases reported by Jefferson County Public Health Wednesday pushed the total number of cases countywide to 354.
The last 10 cases of COVID-19 found in Jefferson County — a span that stretches back to March 23 — have all come from the mid-county area.
The mid-county area has surpassed Port Townsend as the place with the highest number of confirmed coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic more than a year ago: a total of 163 mid-county residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
Elsewhere in Jefferson County, there have been 155 COVID-19 cases discovered in Port Townsend, and 36 in south county (Quilcene, Brinnon, and West Jefferson).
COVID-19 test results were still pending Wednesday for 34 residents. Another nine potential coronavirus contacts remained in isolation April 7.
Based on age, the greatest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases — 72 in all — have been found in the age bracket of residents under the age of 20.
The next largest age group of people who have gotten the coronavirus are people in their 60s; 62 residents in that age bracket have tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Jefferson County Public Health, a total of 21,346 tests have been administered for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and 20,958 tests have come back negative.
Based on gender, 182 males have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic in Jefferson County, and 172 females have tested positive.
A total of 25 residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and two deaths have been linked to COVID-19.
County health officials reported that 338 people have recovered from COVID-19.
People are considered "recovered" at 28 days from the onset of symptoms if they are alive and not hospitalized, according to the state Department of Health.
