A teenager crashed into a power pole on Highway 19 in Beaver Valley early Saturday morning, knocking out power to the Port Ludlow area.

Crews from the Jefferson County Public Utility District worked through Saturday to replace the power pole and restore power to the greater Ludlow area.

Nearly 2,000 PUD customers lost electricity following the crash.

Power is expected to be out in the Ludlow area until 2 p.m. Saturday.

According to the Washington state Patrol, the pole was hit by a 17-year-old driver from Port Ludlow who was heading south on Highway 19 just after midnight Friday when she lost control of her car and went off the road.

The teen was driving a 2020 Buick Encore, which hit a power pole and then came to rest in the ditch next to the road.

A 13-year-old passenger in the car was injured and taken to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale for treatment.

The crash occurred near Milepost 8 of the highway, which is the 7700 block of Beaver Valley Road.

The Buick was totaled and was towed from the scene by All City Body & Towing.

According to the State Patrol, the teen driver is facing a charge of second-degree negligent driving.

Fatigue was a factor in the crash, the State Patrol said.
