More than 18,000 homes and businesses in Jefferson County lost power overnight Friday as strong winds swept the county, leaving downed trees and power lines and road closures.
The Jefferson County Public Utility District reported 18,411 customers without power just after 11:30 p.m. Friday.
The PUD said Highway 19 was closed late Friday from Highway Specialties in Port Hadlock to Anderson Lake Road due to a tree through the transmission line.
In a 9 a.m. update Saturday, the PUD reported most of the county was still without power, but much of Quilcene and Port Townsend had electricity.
Some areas will not have power restored for days, according to the PUD.
The PUD also reported on social media that multiple broken transmission poles during the night and crews were in the field working to restore electricity.
“Crews have been working tirelessly to get power rerouted to customers and we appreciate your patience and understanding,” the PUD said in a Facebook post.
