High-speed internet could come to Jefferson County sooner rather than later.
The Washington State Public Works Board recently approved funding for broadband construction projects in 15 areas of Washington, including Jefferson County. The board approved more than $44.6 million in conditional grants for underserved communities across the state.
Jefferson County will receive more than $1 million to fund the Discovery Bay East Fiber Project, which would provide high-speed internet to residents within the county.
“We are one step closer to our goal of making broadband available and affordable for every community in Washington, and to make sure everyone has the tools and skills they need to securely and successfully use the internet,” said Lisa Brown, Washington state commerce director.
