Sewage line break at North Beach prompts health warning

Posted

Jefferson County Public Health warned people not to swim at North Beach after a sewage leak was reported Tuesday.

The leak was discovered coming from the city of Port Townsend’s outfall line near the border of North Beach County Park and Fort Worden State Park.

Warning signs have been posted due to potential elevated levels of bacteria  in the water that may be harmful to people.

Repairs by a city of Port Townsend public works crew were underway Tuesday, according to the health department. Officials asked the public to avoid the area until the outfall is repaired.
