The Port Townsend Summer Band is presenting “Wings in Motion,” a free, family-friendly concert on Sunday, July 28 at Chetzemoka Park in Port Townsend. Music begins at 1 p.m. Concert-goers are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating on the grass at the park.

As a special treat, the band is excited to welcome MaryLou Sanelli and her team of dancers who will perform two pieces in the park’s iconic gazebo. Sanelli will be joined by Salina Treider, Shanta Corra, and Kari Morehouse in a contemporary dance number, while Lynette Holloway and Dale Bateham will perform a ballroom dance.

Musical selections for the concert’s theme of “Wings in Motion” include Hawk Moon, Dance the Night (from the movie “Barbie”), Feed the Birds (from “Mary Poppins”), Flying Away, Raptors: Birds of Prey, As the Robin to the Meadow, In This Beautiful Place, and On Wings of Glory.

In its 32nd season, the 40-piece all-volunteer band led by conductor Marge Rosen features woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Members range in age from teens on up with a range of playing experience. Band members are mostly from Port Townsend, but many come from throughout the North Olympic Peninsula and beyond. The band takes pride in being a very supportive group that welcomes players who can read music at a high school level and above.

The band will also be offering concerts at the Jefferson County Fair on Friday, August 9 at 3:30 pm and at Pope Marine Park on Sunday, August 25 at 1 pm. More information about the band can be found at www.ptsummerband.org.
