During the week of Dec. 17-22, police issued five citations to drivers in the city. Three citations were issued to drivers for speeding; one citation was issued to a driver for speeding and a warning was given for having the wrong plates on the vehicle and no proof of insurance; one citation was issued to the registered owner of a vehicle parked in front of a no parking sign.
Dec. 19
4:34 a.m. — Police stopped a vehicle for speeding on state Route 19. The driver was traveling 50 mph in a 40 mph speed zone without a valid license and no insurance documents. He was issued a citation and released.
Dec. 20
11:20 a.m. — Police responded to a parking lot on Kearney Street where trees had fallen on several unoccupied vehicles during a windstorm. The Department of Emergency Management was notified.
12:01 p.m. — Police responded to an area on Washington Street where debris was falling off a building during a windstorm. The sidewalk was cordoned off. No injuries were reported. Jefferson County Emergency Management was notified.
10:45 p.m. — A 22-year-old man was arrested at a residence on San Juan Avenue. The homeowner heard someone pounding on his windows and then on the front door and notified police about an intruder who threatened police and threw himself on the ground. The suspect was taken to a hospital for evaluation. He reportedly yelled at police and hospital staff. He was transported to jail and booked for burglary and interference with a healthcare facility.
Dec. 21
5:59 a.m. — Police responded to a business on Park Avenue where a witness had reported seeing a person running in and out of a building, loading welders into a vehicle. Two individuals, a 36-year-old male and a 33-year-old female, were taken into custody at 6:03 a.m. Several welders valued at more than $11,000 were found in the vehicle. All items were recovered. Both suspects were taken to jail. The male suspect was charged with malicious mischief, theft and burglary. The female suspect was charged with malicious mischief; felony; violation of uniform controlled substance act; theft and burglary.
Dec. 22
4:15 a.m. — Police cited and released a driver who was driving without a license. There was an unlicensed passenger in the vehicle. The car did not belong to either person.
