The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 170 calls between Friday, March 10, and Thursday, March 16. Below are selected reports.

At 4:35 p.m. Friday, March 10, a case of malicious mischief was reported in the 1700 block of 10th Street after a man told law enforcement that his car was keyed while parked outside his home. Officers contacted the man to inquire about the car, and the man told police that he now believes the scratch marks on his vehicle were there before he purchased the car. No crime had occurred and the officers left.

At 10:20 a.m. Saturday, March 11, in the 1600 block of West Sims Way, a business owner reported stolen pottery.

After viewing security camera footage, the business owner told told police they saw a white Jeep enter the store’s parking lot. The lock on a fence was cut and the suspect took six pottery pieces, valued at $425 total.

The pottery was cream-colored with bronze sponge marks. After identifying the suspect, an officer contacted the suspect, who admitted to burglary and still possessed evidence from the crime. Bolt cutters used to break in were located in the Jeep, and the suspect said the pottery was stolen to get money to buy drugs.

At 11 a.m. Sunday, March 12, a disturbance was reported in the 2400 block of West Sims Way after a caller witnessed two people fighting.

One of the two people involved was on a bicycle while the other was on foot. The incident was only verbal and not physical, and the caller noted seeing the person on foot — who had sunglasses, dark clothes, and a hat — leave toward a nearby auto repair shop while the bike-rider left toward an unknown destination. Officers arrived in the area but were unable to locate either of the two people involved in the incident.

At 7:45 p.m. Sunday, March 12, a welfare check was requested for a man in the 500 block of Sheridan Street. The reporting party told police a man sitting in a pickup truck appeared to be intoxicated. Officers drove up to the pickup driver, who had a female passenger with him. He told the officers that he was waiting for a friend to help tow his truck.

The officers noted he didn’t show any signs of intoxication or impairment. No crime had occurred and the officers left.
