The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 144 calls between Friday, July 22, and Thursday, July 28. Below are selected reports.

At 6:55 a.m. Sunday, July 24, in the 500 block of Sheridan Street, a potential domestic abuse situation was reported to police.

A store employee reported a man and woman fighting in a nearby parking lot, and said the man had hit the woman and was throwing things out of the window of his car.

A customer in the area also said they witnessed a physical assault.

Officers contacted the man and woman in the parking lot. The woman denied that an assault had occurred and that she’d been in the back of the car the entire time.

The man also denied that anything physical had happened.

Officers attempted to speak with the witnesses of the alleged assault, but neither were on the scene anymore. Police were unable to establish that a crime had occurred, and they offered resources for the woman, who denied the offer.

At 11 a.m. Sunday, July 24, in the 500 block of 27th Street, a caller said a cash box had been broken into at their flower stand.

The caller added that nothing had been taken from the cash box or stand, but the thief did take the camera that was there. The crime likely occurred around 2 a.m. the night before.

At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, July 24, a caller in the 2100 block of Renee Place reported a suspicious car parked in a nearby driveway. The caller said there were no lights on at the house where the car was parked, but noted that someone was heard moving around in the home, and a flashlight had been seen inside.

The caller added that tenants used to live there but had moved out of the home several days ago.

Officers contacted two people in the house who refused to leave. They appeared to be the previous tenants and had been served with an eviction notice, but hadn’t been ordered to vacate the property.

No crime had occurred, but the house’s landlord was contacted and is working on getting eviction papers.

At 8:35 a.m. Monday, July 25, in the 400 block of Petrel Street, a theft was reported by a business employee.

The theft had actually occurred a week ago, and a heater, two fans, siding, and two 2-by-4 planks were taken with an estimated total value of $2,000. There are no known suspects but video footage is being reviewed.

At 9:45 a.m. Monday, July 25, a caller in the 4900 block of Sheridan Street reported that a neighbor had smeared excrement all over a nearby watering hose and water meter.

The caller told police they’ve had ongoing issues with the neighbor and wanted to document the incident. There are no other suspects at this time.

At 12:20 p.m. Monday, July 25, in the 400 block of West Sims Way, a noise complaint was received about someone playing loud music in the area.

Police received multiple noise complaints, and the music was coming from someone’s amplifier. Officers spoke with the amp’s owner and warned them about the loud sound.

At 12:55 p.m. Monday, July 25, a homeowner in the 800 block of Polk Street reported a suspicious man who had rang their doorbell twice.

He’d said he needed to measure something, but the homeowner hadn’t scheduled anything to be measured or looked at on the property.

Officers arrived and identified the man as a neighbor, and he told them he was just trying to say hello to his neighbor.

At 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 25, in the 4700 block of Trail Crest Drive, an employee reported $300 to $400 worth of items had been taken from a construction site.

The thief had taken lumber from the site where a house is being built. The case is under investigation.
