Port Townsend Police Log | Nosy neighbor pepper-sprayed

Posted

The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 174 calls between Friday, Oct. 14, and Thursday, Oct. 20. Below are selected reports.

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15,
a car prowl was reported at the Rainier Street and Discovery Road intersection. The prowl likely occurred overnight, and it was unknown if anything had been taken, though the car appeared to be ransacked. There are no suspects and the vehicle’s owner promised to contact police if any items were discovered missing from the car.

At 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in the 600 block of Tyler Street, a caller reported harassment.

The reporting party told law enforcement that a transient man with two aggressive dogs and a shopping cart had yelled at the caller. No criminal acts, threats of harm, or assault were reported.

At 4 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Quincy and Water streets intersection, a caller reported hearing two men yelling and screaming at each other at the old ferry dock. The yelling had been going on for 10 minutes or so, and the reporting party was calling from a sailboat in the bay. Officers drove to the scene and investigated, but nobody was there.

At 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, an assault was reported in the 1600 block of 21st Street after a man was pepper-sprayed by his neighbor after confronting her in the dark.

Officers arrived on the scene and spoke to the two neighbors. They learned that the man had confronted the woman in the dark over a property line disagreement, approaching her behind her home to prove a point. She told him to get back, he didn’t comply, and she pepper-sprayed him.

Officers determined she acted in self-defense, considering the man was twice told to get back but didn’t. Police also determined that the man was the instigator, since he frightened the woman in her backyard.

At 9:20 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, in the 600 block of Water Street, a woman told police that she believes she had been roofied at a bar in the area, adding that she thinks it’s happened to multiple other people recently.

She said she’d ordered one drink at the bar and blacked out. She was there with her husband and they’d left their drinks unattended outside for a few minutes. There are no suspects.

The woman told police that she had five other friends with similar stories in the past month.
