The Port Townsend Police Department received a total of 149 calls between Friday, April 21, and Thursday, April 27. Below are selected reports.

At 6:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, in the 500 block of Sheridan Street, a man reported being threatened by another man. Outside the nearby grocery store, a transient threatened to beat up the other man and allegedly charged at him.

The suspect, described as wearing a blue-and-gray ski cap, brown jacket, and having a pit bull with him, was seen yelling at people outside the store.

Officers spoke to the man who’d been harassed, who said the suspect had yelled at him for driving too fast and threatened to beat him up. The man said he wasn’t afraid of the suspect, but had been charged by the guy at one point. Officers developed probable cause for harassment and later located the suspect. The suspect initially denied the accusations but admitted to yelling at the man and walking toward him, still denying that he ever charged the man. The suspect was detained and issued a criminal citation for harassment. He was released at the scene.

At 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, April 25, a man in the 1200 block of West Sims Way was reportedly harassing people at a nearby coffee stand. The man was walking around the parking lot and asking people to put in a coffee order for him. Officers contacted the man and warned him to stop approaching cars or he’d be trespassed from the property. The man obliged.

At 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in the 1600 block of Grant Street, a caller reported being tailed by another car. The woman said she’d been followed for 15 minutes the day before, with the car behind her turning multiple times to pursue her. The woman recognized the vehicle, and said she had past issues with the driver and the person was potentially intimidating her. Officers advised the woman to seek a court order against the other driver, adding that she should call the police if it happens again.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, a suspicious person was reported near Center and Spruce streets. A caller said a man in a silver pickup truck approached his wife and told her that somebody was following her.

The suspect had a ponytail and appeared to be in his 40s. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the man or anyone following the woman.

At 1:15 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at a shelter in the 200 block of Monroe Street, a transient woman was reported for shoving an employee and throwing a clipboard at her.

Officers arrived and the two women had been separated from each other. An aid crew was checking on the victim. The woman had shoulder-checked the employee multiple times, then threw a clipboard, which hit a plastic barrier in front of the worker. Probable cause for assault was made, and the woman was arrested and booked in jail.

At 10:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27, hotel guests in the 2000 block of Washington Street called the police after getting locked inside their room.

The caller told dispatchers his brother accidentally broke the door handle inside the room and they couldn’t get out. Officers contacted the guests and forced the door open. The visitors were instructed to call the hotel’s after-hours line to report the broken door to hotel management.
