The Tombstone Tournament is coming back to the Port Townsend Golf Course. Last held on the golf course in 1930, the event has risen from the grave just in time for the spooky season.
On Saturday, Oct. 29, golfing enthusiasts in and around the area are invited to participate in the event by reaching out to the course at 360-385-4547.
The objective of the nine-hole tournament is to cover as much distance as possible around the course in a given number of strokes. Each player is allowed, by the tournament’s handicap committee, a sufficient number of strokes above Par 35. The golfers’ final marks — or “tombstones” are then placed where the ball lands on participants’ final strokes.
For the upcoming tournament, Rita Beebe of the golf course’s Players Club has donated 3-foot foam board tombstones for participants to stick in the ground of their golf balls’ final resting spots.
“At the end of the day, I imagine the Ninth fairway will look like Little Big Horn,” said organizer Tim Caldwell of the Players Club.
