The Port Townsend City Council unanimously approved an ordinance establishing new regulations for parks inside city limits.
Signed off on by the council in its Monday meeting, the city previously did not have any administrative regulations to address potential safety concerns in local parks.
Some of the newly-added, official park rules include: It is unlawful to build a fire in a city of Port Townsend park except in designated areas, such as barbecue grills; all domestic animals must be kept on a leash of 8 feet or less in length (unless at a designated off-leash dog park); and no person shall possess, discharge, set off, or cause to be discharged, any firecracker, torpedo, rocket, firework, explosive, or substance harmful to the life or safety of persons or property.
